Purchased in the mid-1990s by the driver of the Thrust Supersonic Car (Thrust SSC), the watch was worn during every one of the car’s 66 runs, from early runway testing in the UK through to the final Land Speed Record runs at Black Rock Desert, Nevada.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"615\" data-start=\"355\"\u003eThe watch was on the driver’s wrist on 15 October 1997, when Thrust SSC became the first and only land vehicle in history to exceed the speed of sound, setting a World Record at an average speed of 763.035 mph (Mach 1.015) - a record that still stands today.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1000\" data-start=\"617\"\u003eChosen for its robustness and reliability, the Casio AW-370\/1318 was required to endure the harsh desert environment and extreme cockpit temperatures experienced during the campaign. Its altimeter\/barometer functionality also played an important role, allowing atmospheric pressure readings to be recorded during each run, critical data for both aerodynamic and engine performance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-is-only-node=\"\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-end=\"1300\" data-start=\"1002\"\u003eThe watch was worn exclusively throughout the Land Speed Record campaign and has remained in the owner’s possession since 1997.
