The Buying Time Auction Collection is growing — and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has generously donated a piece in support of our work.
Each watch in the collection carries its own remarkable story. Here are four examples from last week.
Watch 01 — The Red Valiant Watch — William Wood
We are incredibly grateful to William Wood Watches for supporting The Buying Time Foundation with the donation of their striking Valiant Red watch for our inaugural auction. This is one of their best selling watches and has kindly been donated by Jonny Garrett - Founder & CEO of William Wood Watches, in memory of his grandfather - William Wood.
Bold, distinctive and rich in detail, the Valiant Red reflects the company's ongoing commitment to honouring those who dedicate their lives to helping others - a philosophy that resonates deeply with Buying Time.
Watch 02 — CASIO AW-370/1318 — The Fastest Timepiece on Earth
The Casio AW-370/1318 is a truly unique timepiece donated in support of The Buying Time Foundation. Purchased in the mid-1990s by the driver of the Thrust Supersonic Car (Thrust SSC), the watch was worn during every one of the car's 66 runs, from early runway testing in the UK through to the final Land Speed Record runs at Black Rock Desert, Nevada.
The watch was on the driver's wrist on 15 October 1997, when Thrust SSC became the first and only land vehicle in history to exceed the speed of sound, setting a World Record at an average speed of 763.035 mph (Mach 1.015) - a record that still stands today.
Watch 03 — The Indefatigable Sphinx — Mr Jones Watches
Escape to the curious world of The Indefatigable Sphinx. This surreal piece of wearable artwork was designed for Mr Jones Watches by Edward Carvalho-Monaghan.
"The watch depicts a surreal, dreamlike landscape. This space exists both outside time and at all possible moments in time simultaneously. Gods, Goddesses and sacred objects from different cultures, places and times are present within this timeless world. At the top of the dial the bejewelled all-seeing eye watches over the world, looking back at us and making the link between their world and ours. My aims are always to expand the dimensions of an image to the farthest possible degree and to create contradictions and suggestions within that space."
Watch 04 — IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Chronograph — Year of the Wood Dragon 2024
Some watches tell the time, while others tell a story.
Limited to just 1000 pieces worldwide, this particular watch carries the special serial number 588 - a number associated in Chinese culture with prosperity and success.
Featuring striking colour combinations, a beautifully detailed dragon rotor and an exhibition case back revealing the craftsmanship within, the watch remains in perfect, unworn condition.
A watch that marks one journey, while helping others through theirs.
