Thanks to the generosity of the donor and the winning bidder who chose this beautiful watch, we are delighted to award a grant to The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT).
This grant will enable CHECT to provide financial support to 24 families facing the unexpected costs that often accompany a child’s cancer diagnosis of retinoblastoma, a rare form or eye cancer.
Each year, around 50 children in the UK are diagnosed with retinoblastoma, while approximately 300 children are receiving active treatment or ongoing care. CHECT is currently supporting families whose children are undergoing treatment for trilateral retinoblastoma, as well as others facing the heartbreak of relapse and further treatment.
With only two specialist treatment centres in the UK, located in London and Birmingham, many families must travel long distances for appointments and prolonged hospital stays. The costs of travel, accommodation and everyday living can quickly mount at a time when parents are often forced to reduce their working hours or take unpaid leave to care for their child.
This grant will help ease that financial pressure, allowing families to focus on what matters most: being there for their child during treatment.
