Getting Started

Creating an Account

To bid on Buying Time, you’ll need an account.

Click on the account icon at the top right of the website, then select Sign In or Create an Account.

You’ll be asked for:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Password

Once your account is created, you’ll be redirected back to the auction item you were viewing.

Account Verification (Required After Bidding)

Important Information for Buyers: AML Requirements
Under current Anti-Money Laundering regulations, we are legally required to verify the identity of our clients before completing transactions (or accepting linked payments) that meet high-value thresholds.

Before you complete a purchase, you may be asked to provide:

  • For Individuals: A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport or driving licence) and a recent proof of address (utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months).
  • For Companies/Trusts: Proof of incorporation, details of directors, and identification of ultimate beneficial owners.
  • Source of Funds: Evidence of how the funds were legally acquired.

Note: Payments must originate from an account in the name of the registered buyer. All data collected is securely stored in accordance with current data protection laws.

How to Bid

Placing a Bid or Setting a Maximum Bid

Once your account is set up, you can bid on any auction item.

You can either:

  • Place a bid at the current increment, or
  • Set a maximum bid

When you set a maximum bid:

  • You enter the highest amount you’re willing to pay
  • The system automatically bids on your behalf, up to that amount
  • If another bidder exceeds your maximum, you’ll be notified

If no one else bids above you, you may win the item for less than your maximum.

Tracking Your Bids

From your account area, you can:

  • View items you’ve bid on
  • Check your wishlist and recently viewed items
  • See the status of active auctions

If you’re outbid, you can choose to place another bid or increase your maximum.

Online Auction Behaviour

Auctions run online and close at a scheduled time.

Each item shows:

  • A countdown timer
  • The current bid and estimate

If a bid is placed near the closing time, the auction may extend slightly to allow fair bidding.

If You Get Outbid

If you’re outbid:

  • You may receive an email notification (depending on timing)
  • You can return to the item to place a new bid or update your maximum

If you place a bid and are immediately outbid, this usually means another bidder already had a higher maximum in place.

After the Auction

If You Win

If your bid is successful:

  • You’ll receive a confirmation email
  • We’ll contact you with next steps, including payment, verification and delivery details
  • Once your account is verified, your item will be prepared for shipment once payment is complete

If You Don’t Win

If you don’t win an auction:

  • No further action is required
  • Your verification remains valid for future auctions
  • You’re welcome to continue bidding on other items
